It is always an honor and privilege to meet the faces behind the wines. Rupert Symington, of Symington Family Estates dropped by recently to show case his family’s table wines. The Symington Family are the folks behind such port icons as, Graham’s, Warre’s, and Dow’s, and they certainly know a thing or two after 350 years in the grape trade!

Two wines to entice you: 2009 Post Scriptum and 2008 Chryseia.

2009 Post Scriptum (arriving in-store soon): Opens with blackberry and strawberry fruits, followed by a spicy, licorice, white pepper red fruit compote, with the finish having a white chocolate creaminess.

2008 Chryseia ($44.99): This is a well established wine from them. Rich and concentrated, with class and finesse and a surprising density of fruit, touch of all-spice and smoke.

I doff my cap to the Symington family; they are now proving themselves to be masters of the table wine business and alerting the world to the serious level of vino coming out of the Douro region of Portugal.
